Moravian Scores in Final Second to Defeat Widener
BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women’s lacrosse squad scored with just two tenths of a second left to earn a 9-8 victory over visiting Widener University in non-conference action Saturday afternoon on John Makuvek Field.

How It Happened
- The Pride scored the opening goal just under three minutes into the contest while the Greyhounds got on the scoreboard at the 9:51 mark as freshman midfielder Cora Sollenberger scored on a free position shot. Widener retook a one-goal lead while sophomore midfielder Ella Steirer tallied a goal with three and a half minutes to go in the period as the squads were tied 2-2 after 15 minutes of action
- Graduate student midfielder Kerry Seiler gave the Hounds their first lead just 24 seconds into the second period while the Pride knotted it up at 3-3 with 11:08 remaining in the first half. Sollenberger netted two more goals for a first half hat trick that sent the Blue & Grey into the intermission with a 5-3 advantage
- Widener began the second half with a goal while Seiler scored twice to put the Hounds up 7-4. The Pride tallied a marker while down a player to make it 7-5 after 45 minutes of play
- Seiler restored the three-goal lead with her fourth goal of the contest 43 seconds into the fourth quarter. Widener rallied back and would tie the contest again at 8-8 with 6:43 remaining. With less than 20 seconds to go, Moravian took the ball from its own defensive end and raced up field. Junior attack Melissa Elefonte found senior midfielder/defender Gianna Lotito in front of the net, and Lotito made a spin move and fired a low shot into the net with just 0.2 seconds left for the victory
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had five players register a point with Seiler netting four goals to go with a pair of draw controls and two caused turnovers
- Sollenberger scored three goals while Steirer and Lotito each tallied one goal
- Elefonte picked up an assist while junior midfielder Reagan Reiner led the Blue & Grey with five ground balls
- Senior goalie Kayla Graef posted nine saves and two ground balls in her first start of the season
- The Hounds were 16-for-19 on clearing attempts in the contest
